Lobster Boat Amelia

I made this 8 color reduction woodcut in the weeks leading up to my daughter's birth. This was a decaying lobster boat up on jacks near where we were living in Seacoast Nh at the time. The print is about potential and my hopes and dreams for my daughter. The name of the actual boat was not Amelia but I decided to name her after my Great grandmother and what we were soon to name our daughter. Amazingly my Grandmother was still alive for our daughter's birth and they actually got to meet. I think of that meeting like New Years eve, the old greeting the new and passing on the responsibilities and past. Much like this boat. My Grandmother died at 103.5 years old but I can see her independent spirit and sense of humor in our daughter. A true New Englander just like this iconic symbol the NH seacoast.
